Heather Buffington-Anderson, Ph.D.

Founder & Principal

Heather is an ethnographer and qualitative researcher who designs learning experiences and advises organizations on leadership, stakeholder engagement, and organizational effectiveness. Her work focuses on translating complex ideas into practical, engaging programs that build capability, strengthen alignment, and support meaningful change.

Her practice spans curriculum and learning design, leadership advisory, stakeholder engagement, and grant strategy. She partners with organizations to develop executive education programs, leadership workshops, and applied learning experiences grounded in real-world context and informed by deep qualitative insight.

Heather’s professional journey spans higher education, executive education, the nonprofit sector, and private industry. Prior to launching Summit Perch, she served as Senior Director of Inclusive Governance Initiatives at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, where she built and scaled executive education programs including Black Corporate Board Readiness, Women’s Corporate Board Readiness, and Accelerating Black Leadership and Entrepreneurship. Her work centered on designing leadership curricula and facilitating learning experiences that connected governance, strategy, and organizational culture.

Earlier in her career, Heather was Assistant Professor of Music History and Ethnomusicology at Claflin University, a leading HBCU, where she co-authored and coordinated a major grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The initiative focused on embedding workforce competencies into curriculum—expanding interdisciplinary learning, strengthening career pathways, and supporting co-ops and internships across campus. This work at the intersection of curriculum design, stakeholder collaboration, and grant strategy continues to inform her approach today.

In addition to founding Summit Perch, Heather serves as a Senior Consultant with Montijo Mouton Consulting, where she contributes to executive assessment, leadership advisory, and organizational insight work with corporate and private equity-backed clients. She also supports mission-driven organizations with grant development and strategic funding efforts, bringing practical insight into an increasingly competitive funding landscape.

Known for her thoughtful facilitation, deep listening, and ability to synthesize diverse perspectives, Heather helps organizations turn insight into action—designing experiences that engage stakeholders, clarify direction, and drive lasting impact.
